A giant eyeball washed up on a beach in Florida and many are wondering what kind of sea life it came from. It was found by a beachcomber on Wednesday in Florida’s Pompano Beach. When found it was handed to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The eye was later sent to the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg, Fl. There, genetic testing will be done to figure out who the eye belonged to. What they think it came from now is a large fish like a swordfish, tuna or deep-water fish. There is some weigh in from marine biologists who don’t think it’s a fish eye because fish have the eyes imbedded in hard tissue. Squid eyes are also a though because they have soft tissue but because there seems to be some bone around the eye, they are ruled out.
This is so cool. If I were to have found the eye I don’t know if I would have given to them. I kind of would want to keep it. My conscience would get to me and I would end up giving it to them but not right away. I so want to know where it came from.
