Rejane Moreira Telles, a nursing student in Brazil, is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter for injecting an 80 year old patient with coffee by mistake on an IV drip. The patient died hours after the incident. The student said she only had several days of experience while working in the Rio de Janeiro hospital when she hooked up a drip that contained coffee and milk. She defended herself on Brazilian TV by saying, "anyone can get confused." Doctors contacted by the TV station said the coffee would have made the patient feel as if they were suffocating.
How do you confuse IV with coffee, it’s a totally different color. I am nowhere near of being a doctor and I know what IV is not supposed to look like. I am glad I don’t live anywhere near this hospital. I feel bad for the patient. It must have felt horrible to die that way.
